Why Everyone Should Watch Weak Hero Class One

As a person who has lost count of the number of dramas watched, it’s not easy to make recommendations for others when there are just so many shows that are genuinely good and different from the rest. However, Weak Hero Class one undoubtedly makes it into the top 3 list, and if we’re judging by the shows released recently, it’s number 1- end of discussion. You don’t even have to be a K-drama person, this is just too good to miss out on.

Weak Hero Class One is a high-school thriller show, focusing on both violence and interpersonal relationships based on a webtoon with the same title. The story follows Yeon Si Eun, a top student who does not care about anything except his studies, and how he becomes the target of merciless bullying by his classmates for being “weak”. Yeon Sieun, however, fights back using his wit and surrounding tools, stumbling upon unexpected friendships on the way. The storyline quickly develops from high-school violence to something deeper and darker- covering the innate evil of humans, classicism, parental abuse, negligence, addiction, as well as teenage psychology. But then again- raw friendship, intense bond, and the whole ride-or-die thing are displayed beautifully amongst all the darker overtones.

This show has eight episodes, each 35 to 40 minutes long- just perfect for a binge-watch. The pace is so intense it will keep you at the edge of your seat for the entire time but also give you just enough time to process the emotions and feel it to your core. The plot development was done to perfection, and the characters’ motivations for their actions were all raw and understandable. You know why it happened the way it did, but at the same time feel this heartache at the helplessness of being unable to change the outcome.

Acting-wise, outstanding. Steller. Remarkable. Honestly, when I started this show, I did not expect it to have good acting, considering the cast is full of young and new actors. Moreover, the lead role is played by Park Ji Hoon- who started his career as an idol focusing on vocals, dance, and rap. Nevertheless, I was proved wrong just a few minutes in. One look at Park Jihoon’s eyes as Yeon Sieun was enough. Jihoon delivered his character to the point it wasn’t even a character anymore, He became Him, he brought Yeon Sieun to life.

Cha Hyunwook, who plays Ahn Suho, adds charm and liveliness to the show. It is impossible not to be captivated by his performance even through the screen. The relationship between Sieun and Suho is the best thing about this, for me at least. If I had to describe it with a dialogue ( I don't have to. but I will ) it would be this-

"Are you Suho's friend?"

"Yes"

"You must be Sieun"

The trio is completed by Oh Bumseok played by Hong Kyung. You would never realize this is his first time taking on a lead role, as he sells his character with every drop of blood in his body. Downright insane acting from the main three as well as the entire cast.

And did I mention the brilliant Action scenes? The fights were so fierce and heated it hurt just to watch. I don’t even want to know how they filmed those, but massive respect for the actors for pulling off all the fiery scenes flawlessly.

Another plus point (something very important to ME) is the soundtrack. The intro track is everything to me, I could not skip it no matter how crazy the last episode was and how much I was dying to know what happened next. The music is perfectly suited for each scene, highlighting the emotions portrayed by the actors.

So yeah. Watch it. Talk to me. I could go on for hours about this but had to stop to make this spoiler free!
