Every type has an individual meaning. You can identify the themes by observing colors and drawings.

Abstract Art:

Who could have thought that some shapes, colors and lines can define some meanings in a painting? Though there are some abstract paintings that do not convey any specific meaning. However, it does contain the beauty of colors that will just fascinate  your eyes. Nowadays people use these types of painting to decorate their houses, office rooms, and hotels. These paintings are pretty minimal and give a very modern look.

Impressionism:

Mainly impressionism is an open composition which emphasizes on accurate representation of light in its changing qualities, the effects of passing time, commonplace objects, unusual viewing angle and small, thin, yet discernible brush strokes. It highlights the visual representation of the world, the artists have witnessed or passed by. We can enjoy the alluring beauty of unblended pastel colors and feel  the color of natural light. After staring at one of these paintings, you are going to discover how fascinating a painting can be with those light toned colors.

Post-Impressionism:

Whenever you hear the term post impressionism, you should prepare yourself to admire the world of bright colors. Basically the characteristics of these paintings are the use of vibrant colors, applications of thick paint , distinctive brush strokes and realistic subject matter.  The main purpose of these types of paintings are the use of unnatural or arbitrary colors. Actually it is totally the opposite version of impressionism. However, If you want to bless your eyes with vivid colors and enlighten your mood then I think the genre post impressionism is like a miracle painters created in the history of art.

Realism:

Realism paintings represent  the situation without  altering the truth , using real objects or people and mostly ignores the supernatural things. These types of paintings are mostly painted by the artist who had gone through the situation or had witnessed the specific situation. Most importantly, realism paintings are created to restrain the criticism of social environment and convention, highlighting the immoral deeds of people and the devastating calamities.
